World Boxing Super Series Season Two To Be Streamed On DAZN In The United States
For the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight and super middleweight tournaments, the United States has had some difficulty finding a consistent spot to watch the fights. The second season of the WBSS will fix that issue.
Tournament organizers announced that the WBSS has reached a deal with Perform Group to have all three tournaments of season two be streamed on Perform’s DAZN platform that will be launched in the United States later this year.
This is the second boxing deal DAZN and Perform Group have reached since an eventual U.S. launch was happening. Previously, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn and Perform agreed to have DAZN stream 16 yearly Matchroom Boxing USA cards for the next eight years on a $1 billion deal. Perform also recently announced that it has reached a multi-year deal to stream Bellator MMA events on DAZN worth $100 million.
James Rushton, DAZN CEO, said in the press release that the United States boxing market felt left out of watching the season one tournaments, which were mostly streamed live on YouTube. The mission for Perform was to have DAZN be the cornerstone for the World Boxing Super Series for the next few years in the United States.
“As a platform built for the fans, DAZN has been mining boxing chats and forums to see how we can bring immediate value to the community. It became obvious that Americans felt left out of the terrific action and thrilling competition on display in the World Boxing Super Series. To that end, we’re happy to announce that we’ll stream every fight of all three tournaments. Keep an eye out for more announcements soon. This is just the beginning,” Rushton said.
The deal will call for the World Boxing Super Series to have all 21 of their fights across three weight classes be streamed on 15 different fight cards, meaning there will be multiple World Boxing Super Series fights on the same card, something that didn’t happen in season one. The agreement is a three-year deal, meaning the WBSS have plans to have multiple tournaments past the three that are already announced.
The second season of the World Boxing Super Series will have tournaments at bantamweight, junior welterweight and a third weight class that has yet to be announced. For the bantamweight tournament, four fighters have been announced and the junior welterweight tournament already announced five boxers. A total of four world champions have been announced to participate so far with a fifth champion being crowned in one of the junior welterweight tournament quarterfinals: Anthony Yigit vs. Ivan Baranchyk for the vacant IBF title.
