Weekend Championship Boxing Results (9/22-23)
Coming off the success that was the Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin fight, this past weekend saw a litany of world title fights take place in the world of boxing.
Below are the results of this past weekend’s biggest fights.
Top Rank Boxing on ESPN (September 22):
– Oscar Valdez defeated Genesis Servania to retain the WBO featherweight title via unanimous decision (117-109, 116-110, 115-111)
– Gilberto Ramirez defeated Jesse Hart to retain the WBO super middleweight title via unanimous decision (115-112, 115-112, 114-113)
HBO Champion Boxing (September 23):
– Jorge Linares defeated Luke Campbell to retain the WBA, WBC Diamond lightweight titles via split decision (115-112, 114-113, 112-115)
World Boxing Super Series Cruiserweight Quarterfinals (September 23):
– Yunier Dorticos defeated Dmitry Kudryashov to retain the WBA “regular” cruiserweght title and advance to the WBSS semifinals via KO, round 2
WBO World Heavyweight Title Match (September 23):
– Joseph Parker defeated Hughie Fury to retain the WBO heavyweight title via majority decision (118-110, 118-110, 114-114)
Being shown in a multitude of different platforms, these world title fights had the spotlight on them and has set up several more big fights. Linares’ win over Campbell now puts him in line to fight Mikey Garcia in a lightweight world title unification.
Dorticos’ win in the WBSS puts him in the final four, where he will face the winner of the Murat Gassiev vs. Krzysztof Wlodarczyk quarterfinals set to take place in New Jersey on October 21.
