WBSS Reserve Fights Set For November 3 Card
With two World Boxing Super Series quarterfinal fights taking place on November 3, the tournament is already taking measures to make sure the two fights are taking place.
The November 3 World Boxing Super Series card from Glasgow, Scotland will have a bantamweight tournament fight between Ryan Burnett and Nonito Donaire. There will also be a WBSS junior welterweight tournament fight between Josh Taylor and Ryan Martin on the card.
As such, the WBSS will have two fights be served as reserved fights in case any of the four tournament fighters pull out of the card. The two reserve fights are Paul Butler vs. Yoan Boyeaux at bantamweight and Viktor Postol vs. Siar Ozgul at junior welterweight.
Butler last fought this summer when he fought Emmanuel Rodriguez for the vacant IBF bantamweight title. Butler was three pounds overweight for the fight and was then soundly beaten by Rodriguez, losing a unanimous decision. Boyeaux, a 46-fight veteran from France has not fought since unsuccessfully challenging for Naoya Inoue’s WBO super flyweight title last year. Both Rodriguez and Inoue are facing each other in the World Boxing Super Series bantamweight semifinals.
Postol held the WBC junior welterweight title for nine months from 2015 to 2016 and would lose to Terence Crawford in a unification fight on pay-per-view. Postol last fought in June when he lost a unanimous decision to Taylor. Ozgul is taking a significant step up in competition when he faces Postol, but Ozgul is no stranger to success. Ozgul sports a 14-1 record and won the BBBofC Southern Area junior welterweight title in 2017.
