WBO Super Flyweight Title Eliminator Set For August In Florida

Jeyvier Cintron and Koki Eto are set to do battle one more time with the winner getting an eventual 115-pound title shot.

Both men will fight in Kissimmee, Florida on August 2 in a bout for the WBO International super flyweight title and will be televised on Telemundo. The fight will also serve as a title eliminator with both fighters ranked in the top five in the WBO rankings.

The first time the two fought was back in May on the ESPN+ undercard of Jamel Herring’s WBO super featherweight title win over Masayuki Ito. In that fight, Cintron was dropped by Eto in the first round and stumbled all over the ring and the referee decided to stop the fight. Initially, the fight was ruled as a TKO win for Eto, but replays showed that it was a headbutt that landed on Cintron’s chin that knocked him down. Upon further review, the fight was ruled as a no contest.

Cintron would actually be the second Puerto Rican fighter to compete in a WBO super flyweight title eliminator in 2019. Back in January, fellow countryman Jose Martinez was stopped in the second round by Aston Palicte to win the right to fight for the title later in the year. Palicte would go on to lose to Ioka in Japan on June 19.

Prior to the first bout against Eto, Cintron had won all 10 of his pro bouts after a successful amateur career that included two Olympic runs in 2012 and 2016, becoming the first Puerto Rican boxer to do so. Cintron is the current WBO Latino super flyweight champion and his last win was in March when he stopped Eliecer Quezada in the first round.

Eto was once an interim WBA flyweight titleholder in 2013, losing the belt to Sirichai Thaiyen in his first defense with a 12th round stoppage loss. Since that loss, Eto would go on to win 10 of his next 11 fights and challenged Carlos Cuadras for the WBC super flyweight title back in 2015.
