WBO Reviews Pacquiao vs. Horn, Says Horn Won The Fight
Manny Pacquiao‘s highly controversial loss to Jeff Horn drew the ire of many in the boxing community who called the fight a robbery, but the WBO doesn’t think so.
In an independent analysis and review of the July 1 fight, the WBO had five judges rescore the fight and three of the five judges confirm the original result, which was a Jeff Horn decision win. A statement from the WBO (part of which can be seen below), explained the breakdown on the judges’ scoring of the fight.
Upon the analysis, the findings stated that Pacquiao won the 3rd, the 8th and 9th by 100%; the 5th round was won by 80%; and the 11th round by 60%. Horn won the 1st, 6th and 12th rounds by 100%; rounds 2nd, 4th, and 7th by 80%; and then, the 10th round by 60%. From the results, it can be established that Pacquiao won 5 rounds while Horn won 7 rounds.
Horn told reporters in Brisbane that he’s happy to see the WBO agree with original three judges’ scores.
“It gives me evidence behind me that I can just use now. Instead of saying ‘I think I won the fight,’ now a heap of other people — professionally — think I won the fight,” Horn said. “It’s definitely nice to have it finally put on paper. Now just to have it clear in front of us is good.”
Only one judge gave Pacquiao a win in the review of the fight, while the fifth judge scored the fight a draw. Fightful had scored the fight 115-113 in favor of Pacquiao on its live coverage. A rematch is likely to happen.
