WBC President: Carlos Cuadras Has Entered Drug Rehabilitation

Carlos Cuadras' drug issues with the WBC have now gone to the point where he has now entered rehab.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman spoke with ESPN Deportes and revealed the former world champion is now in a rehabilitation center due to recreational drug abuse.

"Carlos Cuadras is in a rehabilitation center and we're 100 percent in his corner supporting him. He's at a point in his life where it could happen to any of us. We're supporting him and we're going to walk with him through this until he's able to reincorporate himself back into a normal life and back into boxing," Sulaiman said.

Cuadras was recently removed from the WBC rankings and temporarily suspended for a potential violation of the WBC's Clean Boxing Program. It had been alleged that Cuadras refused to take a drug test only for the governing body to announce his suspension for "alleged consumption of recreational substances."

The WBC did reveal that Cuadras' drug problems are not PED-related, as he had not tested positive for such a drug in his last fight against McWilliams Arroyo on HBO's "Superfly 2" broadcast back in February. Cuadras lost that fight, which was for the WBC Silver super flyweight title.

Cuadras has lost three of his last four fights and is in the midst of a losing streak for the first time in his pro career. Cuadras' last loss prior to the February defeat to Arroyo was to Juan Francisco Estrada last September in a WBC super flyweight world title eliminator.
