Victor Ortiz vs. Brandon Rios Likely Headed For August PBC On FOX Card

A fight between Victor Ortiz and Brandon Rios, two of boxing’s most bitter rivals, appear to finally have their long-awaited rematch.

According to ESPN, Premier Boxing Champions currently has a FOX card set for August 4 either at the StubHub Center in Carson, California or at a venue in Texas where a potential Ortiz vs. Rios fight could happen.

If the fight does become a reality, it would be a crossroads fight for two stars who are currently out of their prime. Both boxers are coming off a fight back in February on separate fight cards with neither fighter getting a victory. Ortiz is coming off a majority draw against Devon Alexander that headlined the February 17 PBC on FOX card. Ortiz has not won a fight against a notable opponent since beating Andre Berto in 2011 to win the WBC welterweight title.

As for Rios, he headlined the Showtime Championship Boxing card that followed Ortiz’s draw against Alexander. Like Ortiz, Rios was unable to find victory in his fight against Danny Garcia. Garcia knocked Rios in the ninth round of their WBC welterweight title eliminator. Rios has a 3-2 record in fights since 2014 which includes a win over Mike Alvarado in the rubber match of their four-year long rivalry.

Despite the relative lack of in-ring success both boxers have had for a while, the two had been feuding for years. It appeared that the two would fight in early 2017, but the fight never materialized.
