Vergil Ortiz Jr., Joseph Diaz Jr., Sadam Ali Highlight Canelo vs. Jacobs Undercard

While the focus of the May 4 DAZN card from Las Vegas is the middleweight title unification between Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs, the rest of the undercard will feature several rising contenders in action.

Junior welterweight prospect Vergil Ortiz Jr. will have arguably the biggest test of his pro career thus far when he faces Mauricio Herrera in a 10-round bout. The fight will be contested at welterweight, but a win for Ortiz could mean a eventual run at a junior welterweight title when he moves back down in weight after this bout.

Also on the card is junior welterweight contender Pablo Cesar Cano looking to get one step closer towards challenging for a world title when he defends his WBC International Silver belt against Michael Perez. This will be Cano’s first fight since scoring a big upset win over former lightweight champion Jorge Linares at Madison Square Garden in January.

Joseph Diaz Jr. will get an opportunity to get into the WBA super featherweight title picture when he’ll get a chance to fight for the WBA Gold title on the undercard. Diaz’s opponent has not been announced but the fight will be a 12-rounder. Diaz once challenged for the WBC featherweight title in 2018, but was unsuccessful as he lost a decision against Gary Russell Jr.

Former junior middleweight champion Sadam Ali will continue his journey for a welterweight world title when he fights Anthony Young for the vacant USNBC Silver title. Lamont Roach Jr. and Jonathan Oquendo also square off in a super featherweight bout for both the WBO International and NABO 130-pound titles.

Lastly, undefeated prospect Alexis Espino will have his second pro bout when he fights an opponent to be announced at a later date in a four-round super middleweight bout.
