Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Orlando Salido Targeted For August

Vasyl Lomachenko could potentially avenge his only loss later this summer.

Lomachenko, the current WBO super featherweight champion, is targeting former world champion Orlando Salido, according to RingTV.com. Lomachenko’s promoter Bob Arum is aiming for the Lomachenko vs. Salido rematch to take place in the United States sometime in early August.

Salido’s manager, Sean Gibbons, told The Ring Magazine that the deal could be finalized as soon as May 29 should Salido defeat Thailand’s Amphon Suriyo in a tune-up fight on May 27.

“On the 29th (that Monday), we look to move to close the deal with Bob,” Gibbons said. “I see Lomachenko with the nonsense ‘it doesn’t matter.’ If you’re past it, daddy, quit thinking about it and move on. At the end of the day, Salido is a few years older, Lomachenko a few years better, but we’ll see what happens. Salido will be the best opponent since he fought Salido.”

In their first encounter, Salido beat Lomachenko by split decision (116-112, 115-113, 113-115) back in March 2014. The outcome prevented Lomachenko the chance to become the first boxer to win a major world title in just his second professional outing. Salido has not won a fight since 2014, losing to Roman Martinez once and drawing against Martinez and Francisco Vargas.

Lomachenko last fought on April 8, headlining an HBO-televised card when he stopped Jason Sosa in Lomachenko’s second defense of his super featherweight title.
