Undefeated Cletus Seldin Tests Positive For Elevated Levels Of Testosterone
Undefeated prospect Cletus Seldin has failed a drug test due to elevated levels of testosterone, prompting his upcoming June 15 bout against Mike Arnaoutis to be called off.
According to Joe DeGuardia, promoter for Star Boxing, which promotes Seldin, told ESPN the fight cancelation has postponed the entire card set to take place in Huntington, New York.
Seldin's positive drug test came from a urine sample provided to the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) on May 23. Seldin is enrolled in the World Boxing Council's Clean Boxing Program, which was being overseen by VADA and is mandatory for boxers ranked and in the organization's top 15 as well as titleholders. Seldin was the governing body's International Silver Super Lightweight champion from 2014-16.
This is Seldin's second failed test due to testosterone levels. He was also tested by VADA on February 1 in an out-of-competition test, which came back with a T/E ratio of 20.2 to 1. Seldin also tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid stanozolol in that February test. DeGuardia said Seldin has been going through testosterone therapy and that VADA was aware of the therapy, but Seldin stopped treatment as far back as late April.
"Cletus has had testosterone therapy," DeGuardia said. "It's not like he's trying to hide anything or gain an unfair advantage. He wrote it on the sheet when VADA came to test him. He called to ask what he should do, because he wanted to know if he could still take the treatments. He didn't get an answer, so on April 27 Cletus stopped all treatments. He didn't take anymore as of April 27."
The fight against Arnaoutis would have been his first fight in roughly a year. Cletus knocked out Jesus Selig in his last fight back on June 17, 2016.
