Tyron Zeuge To Defend His WBA “Regular” Super Middleweight Title In July
With WBA “super” super middleweight champion George Groves ready to fight in a historic World Boxing Super Series final later this year, the WBA’s secondary champion is also getting ready for his next title defense.
Tyron Zeuge, who holds the WBA’s “regular” super middleweight title, will defend his title against top-five super middleweight Rocky Fielding. The fight will take place in Germany on July 14 and it will be Zeuge’s fourth world title defense.
Zeuge has held the WBA title since late 2016. Zeuge originally defeated Isaac Ekpo via technical decision in his first title defense, but the WBA decided to order a rematch between the two boxers. Zeuge retained the title by scores of 49-46, 48-47 and 49-47 in a fight cut short when an accidental head butt in the third round left Zeuge with a nasty cut over his right eye. Since the first fight against Ekpo, Zeuge has made two title defenses, a unanimous decision victory over Paul Smith back in the summer of 2017 and then a second-round TKO win over Ekpo in a rematch back in March.
Fielding has won his last five fights since losing to Callum Smith, who is fighting Groves in the World Boxing Super Series 168-pound finals taking place in the United Kingdom later this year. Fielding is currently ranked No. 4 in the WBA’s official rankings at super middleweight.
The event, which will take place at the Baden-Arena in Offenburg, Germany, has not announced any other fights for the undercard.
