Top Rank Announces World Title Doubleheader On May 26 ESPN+ Card

ESPN's new online streaming service has added a super flyweight world title doubleheader to its upcoming programming schedule.

The network and Top Rank Promotions announced that there will be a Top Rank Boxing card in Fresno, California on May 26 and will be streamed exclusively on the new ESPN+ streaming service. The event will feature two super flyweight world titles, a WBA title bout between Khalid Yafai and David Carmona and an IBF title fight between Jerwin Ancajas and Jonas Sultan.

The fight between Ancajas and Sultan does hold historic significance. It is the first All-Filipino boxing world title fight since Pancho Villa retained his world flyweight title against Clever Sencio in 1925. In a press release sent to Fightful, Ancajas said he's grateful for the chance to fight Sultan in a historic fight for boxing in the Philippines.

"I am so glad and very grateful that I was given an opportunity to fight Jonas Sultan. We are given a chance to display our talents on a world stage, two Filipinos fighting for a world title. This is history, and our names will be linked forever," Ancajas said.

Should Ancajas and Yafai both retain their respective super flyweight titles, it will open the very strong possibility of both champions fighting each other next in a world title unification. Yafai has had title unification aspirations last year when he told Fightful that he wanted to fight Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez only if he were to regain his WBC super flyweight title last year.
