Tony Bellew vs. David Haye Rematch Official For December 17

Tony Bellew and David Haye are not done with each other and will have another fight this year.

After the controversial buildup to their grudge match that happened in March, a rematch seemed likely after Haye tore his Achilles midway through the fight. The rematch became official and it will place on December 17 at the O2 Arena in London. Matchroom Boxing confirmed the fight, which had already been discussed by both camps for a couple of weeks, was happening via press release

The fight was known for some highly controversial remarks made by Haye towards Bellew and his fans. As a result, Haye was fined £25,000 by the British Boxing Board of Control back in June. In the press release, Bellew said the fight "isn’t personal anymore, it’s strictly business" as Bellew is and Haye are vying for an opportunity to fight for a world heavyweight championship, likely against unified WBA and IBF champion Anthony Joshua or against WBO champion Joseph Parker, who fought in the UK for the first time in his career recently when he defeated Hughie Fury.

Haye got stopped by Bellew in the 11th round of their March 4 fight, seemingly ending a feud that started last year when Bellew and Haye got into a shouting match after Bellew defended his WBC cruiserweight title. This will be Haye's fourth fight after a three-and-a-half year absence from the sport due to numerous injuries, which included a shoulder injury that required reconstructive surgery.
