Tevin Farmer vs. Guillaume Frenois Formally Announced For July 27
IBF super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer is heading to Texas for his second title defense of 2019.
Matchroom Boxing announced that Farmer will face mandatory challenger Guillaume Frenois on July 27 at the College Center Park in Arlington, Texas. The event, set to be streamed on DAZN in the United States, will be headlined by the unified WBO/WBC junior welterweight title fight between Maurice Hooker and Jose Ramirez.
This would be Farmer’s fourth world title defense since winning the belt last August in Australia where he won a lopsided decision against Billy Dib. Farmer would then go on to defend his title three times in the span of five months with all of those defenses being streamed on DAZN. Farmer’s first defense of the belt was a fifth-round stoppage win over James Tennyson last October and followed it up with 12-round decision wins against Francisco Fonseca last December and against Jono Carroll this past March.
Frenois has been fighting professionally since 2006 and had won a number of regional titles throughout his career, but never fought for a world title. Frenois, who sports a 46-1-1 record and ranked No. 3 by the IBF, is unbeaten in his last 16 fights dating all the way back to 2013.
The 35-year-old Frenois, ranked No. 3 by the IBF, last fought in December 2018 in a title eliminator against Carroll. The fight ended in a split draw with each fighter getting a 115-113 score in their favor by one judge and the third judge scoring it a 114-114 draw.
