Teofimo Lopez Cleared To Train, Aiming For December Return
Top lightweight prospect and rising Top Rank star Teofimo Lopez is cleared to return to the ring and has his sights set on competing on one of the biggest ESPN boxing cards of the year.
The undefeated Lopez posted the following on Twitter, saying that he has been cleared by his doctor and is looking to return on the December 8 Top Rank Boxing on ESPN card. Lopez was previously not able to compete after suffering an injury to his right hand in his last fight.
The card plans to have Vasiliy Lomachenko fight Jose Pedraza in a WBA/WBO lightweight unification bout in the main event. The card was planned to take place at The Forum in Los Angeles, but it may be moved to Madison Square Garden at the request of ESPN. That fight has yet to be officially announced.
Lopez last fought in July when he knocked down William Silva three times en route to a sixth-round TKO victory to win the vacant WBC Continental Americas lightweight title. During that fight, Lopez injured his right hand and has been out of action since then.
That fight took place on the undercard for Regis Prograis’ TKO victory over Juan Jose Velasco to retain the interim WBC junior welterweight title. Lopez’s current record stands at 10-0 with eight knockout victories and is ranked No. 11 by the WBA.
