Super Bantamweight Prospects To Headline Showtime Televised Card In 2017

A group of up and coming prospects are set to take the stage next month in Showtime Boxing's ShoBox: The Next Generation show.

Rising undefeated super bantamweight prospect Adam Lopez is set to square off against Danny Roman on January 20 in Atlantic City, New Jersey in the main event of Showtime's prospect boxing show. In a press release announcing the fight, Lopez acknowledged Roman as his biggest opponent so far in his career.

"This will be my toughest fight. It is all about levels and progressing," Lopez said. "Roman is a very good fighter and I'm ready for a tough fight. He's progressed a lot. He's a good puncher, counterpuncher, and works the body. But I'm ready for whatever he brings. A win would be huge (because) it puts me in contention to fight a world champion."

Since losing an eight-round decision loss all the way back in 2013, Roman won all 13 of his fights since then. Roman said he will make his upcoming fight against Lopez his coming out party as a legitimate contender for a world title.

"I've been extremely active over the last few years and now all the hard work is starting to pay off," Roma said. "This is a tremendous opportunity and the type of fight I've been preparing for. Adam Lopez is a great fighter, and he's highly ranked just like me. We are going to give the fans an exciting fight. I can box, I can brawl. I give the fans what they want. I think people are going to be impressed with how I fight. People want to see a fight and I know I'm going to bring it. Boxing fans are going to know who Danny Roman is on Jan. 20."

The rest of the card, all eight-round fights, is the following:

  • Ronald Ellis vs. Christopher Brooker: super middleweight fight
  • Kenneth Sims Jr. vs. Wellington Romero: light welterweight fight
  • Stephon Young vs. Daniel Rosas: super bantamweight fight

Both Roman and Lopez are highly touted fighters, with the two men being ranked in the WBA's top four (Lopez and Roman are ranked #3 and #4, respectively) in its super bantamweight division, where Guillermo Rigondeaux is the organization's current "super" champion.
