Showboating Boxer Gets Knocked Out In Final Seconds Of Fight

The beauty of boxing is that no fighter is ever truly out of a fight until the fight is truly over and Sam Maxwell illustrated that point beautifully.

Maxwell fought Sabri Sediri on the undercard of a Queensbury Promotions card on March 23 at the Leicester Arena with the vacant WBO European junior welterweight title on the line. Sediri, who came into the fight with a 10-0-1 record, had dominated the fight from the start. Sediri dropped Maxwell twice early in the fight and seemed to be heading towards a comfortable decision win.

But fate (and karma) brought a different result that what Sediri was expecting. In the closing moments of the fight, Sediri was showboating, showing no signs of concern that Maxwell would try to pull out a miracle comeback and dropped his guard. It was at that point in which Maxwell landed a vicious right hand, dropping Sediri and taking him out of the fight entirely and completing one of the greatest comebacks in recent memory.

It was another reminder that being cocky in the ring comes with tremendous risk as history has shown us with the likes of Adrien Broner, Usman Ahmed and Ricardo Mayorga falling victim to their own hubris and suffering the consequences inside the ring.

The full fight can be seen in its entirety in the video at the top of the page. However, if you want to skip straight to the final round, you can also check it out in the video below.
