Shawn Porter vs. Yordenis Ugas For WBC Welterweight Title Set In March On FOX

Shawn Porter’s first WBC welterweight title defense will take place under the bright lights of Las Vegas on FOX.

Porter, who won the WBC championship back in September, will defend the title against mandatory challenger Yordenis Ugas in the main event of a PBC on FOX card. The broadcast will take place at the T-Mobile Arena on March 9 per an announcement made in an event in Los Angeles organized by PBC and FOX.

It is the first time Porter will defend the title since defeating Danny Garcia to claim the vacant belt. Porter had been the WBC’s mandatory challenger for well over a year at the time as Keith Thurman had been dealing with injuries and unable to fight Porter.

Earlier this year, Thurman vacated the WBC, which opened the door for the matchup between Porter and Garcia. This will be Porter’s first fight in Las Vegas since defeating former world champion Adrien Broner back in June 2015.

Ugas has been riding a huge wave of momentum since losing two straight fights in 2014 and then taking a two-year break from boxing. Since Ugas returned to action in 2016, he has won his last eight fights, including one against Thomas Dulorme on the non-PPV undercard of Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor in August 2017. Ugas, the WBC’s No. 6 ranked welterweight, is coming off a wide unanimous decision win over Cesar Miguel Barrionuevo in a WBC title eliminator back in September on the same card Porter won the world title.
