Sakio Bika Taken Out Of PBC On FS1 Prelim Card After Medical Issue Discovered
There’s been a couple of changes to the PBC on FS1 prelim card taking place on March 24.
Originally, Jose Miguel Borrego and Jerry Thomas were supposed to have a match on the prelim card that would serve as the lead-in to the main card, also on FS1. The card is set to take place from the MGM National Harbor in Maryland. The fight was canned after Thomas withdrew, but PBC had a back-up plan.
PBC then announced that former super middleweight champion Sakio Bika would be facing Lionell Thompson and that fight was going to replace the Borrego vs. Thomas bout. Unfortunately, Bika’s return to the ring was nixed after PBC announced that the Maryland State Athletic Commission discovered Bika had a medical issue during his pre-fight examination on March 22.
Bika would have made his in-ring return for the first time since October 2017. The 39-year-old was once the WBC super middleweight champion and was on a two-fight win streak after unsuccessfully challenging for the WBC light heavyweight title in 2015.
As a result of Bika’s fight being canceled, an eight-round fight between unbeaten super featherweight prospect Cobia Breedy and Fernando Fuentes will now open the PBC on FS1 prelims.
The FS1 prelims broadcast will also feature Brandon Quarles battling Kansas-native Aaron Coley in an eight-round middleweight bout as well as Lorenzo Simpson taking on Jaime Meza in a four-round super middleweight attraction.
The main card will be headlined by a 12-round welterweight bout between former world champions Lamont Peterson and Sergey Lipinets.
