Ryan Garcia Stops Jose Lopez After Two Rounds In DAZN Main Event
Ryan Garcia’s meteoric rise to stardom continues with another quick victory on DAZN.
In his first main event fight on the streaming service, Garcia demolished Jose “Wonder Boy” Lopez after two rounds. Garcia now improves to 18-0 as a pro, putting him one step closer to getting a world title opportunity.
Late in the second round, Garcia landed a right hand on the side of Lopez’s head and then followed it up with an uppercut that dropped him. Lopez barely beat the 10-count to resume fighting, but once the round was over, Lopez’s corner didn’t allow him to continue fighting, giving Garcia the victory.
This was Garcia’s second straight fight under the tutelage of Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso. Beforehand, Garcia was considered a hot, young, some say over-hyped, prospect with a large social media following, but training under Reynoso and alongside unified middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez seems to have justified Golden Boy Promotions’ faith in the 20-year-old.
After the fight, Garcia confidently said he is ready to take on better opposition and that he wants to fight for a world title. During the post-fight interview, Garcia also called out Mayweather Promotions, saying that he is not scared of them, possibly alluding to some conflict Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions had a couple of months back. Garcia was joined by Alvarez and the unified middleweight champion gave his stamp of approval on his progress thus far.
Promoter Oscar De La Hoya also gave Garcia a thumbs up and said he Garcia will win his first world title “sooner than later,” but Garcia’s exact route to that world title remains unclear.
