Ruben Villa To Headline ShoBox: The New Generation Card On May 10

Undefeated featherweight prospect Ruben Villa is taking the next step into his career and fighting a world-ranked fighter on an upcoming ShoBox card in May.

Villa will face Luis Alberto Lopez in the main event of a ShoBox: The New Generation card on May 10 from the Omega Products International in Corona, California. The fight headlines a three-fight televised card on Showtime.

The 22-year-old Villa has won all 15 fights since making his pro debut in 2016. Villa last fought on January 11 on the undercard of a ShoBox card from Shreveport, Louisiana, defeating Ruben Cervera by unanimous decision.

Lopez won the WBO International featherweight champion after defeating Ray Ximenez by technical decision after eight rounds back in February on a card streamed on UFC Fight Pass. Lopez is currently on a five-fight win streak since suffering his first pro defeat back in 2018 when he lost to Abraham Montoya by split decision. Lopez is currently ranked No. 11 by the WBO at 126 pounds.

In the co-main event bout, unbeaten prospect Michael Dutchover will face former Chilean National junior welterweight champion Ramon Mascarena Jr. Dutchover, winner of all 11 of his fights, will compete for the first time since November 2017 while Mascarena will look to pick up his 1th straight victory.

The opening bout will be a bantamweight fight between Saul Sanchez and Brandon Leon Benitez. Sanchez is coming off a majority decision win against Luis Fernando Saavedra in his last fight back in October. Benitez is on a five-fight win streak since suffering a stoppage loss to Irving Turrubiartes in 2017.
