Robert Guerrero, Jesus Cuellar Set To Fight In Separate Bouts On Porter vs. Ugas Undercard
Former world champions Robert Guerrero and Jesus Cuellar are set to return to the ring this weekend.
Both men were announced to fight in separate bouts on the undercard of the March 9 Premier Boxing Champions card from Carson, California. The main event of that card, which will be televised on Fox, is a WBC welterweight title fight between Shawn Porter and Yordenis Ugas.
Guerrero will take on Hevinson Herrera in a 10-round welterweight bout. Guerrero, a former featherweight, super featherweight world champion and former lightweight and welterweight interim titleholder, came out of retirement at the end of 2018. In his return fight back in December, Guerrero knocked out Adam Mate in the second round in Los Angeles. Herrera sports a 24-16-1 record and has lost four of his last six fights.
Cuellar, on the other hand, will face Carlos Padilla in an eight-round lightweight bout. Cuellar is a former WBA featherweight titleholder, but is on a two-fight losing streak. Cuellar’s last fight took place in April 2018 when he moved up in weight to challenge for the vacant WBA super featherweight title and was stopped by Gervonta Davis in three rounds. Padilla is a former interim WBA super featherweight title challenger but has lost five straight and eight of his last nine bouts.
Fightful spoke to both Porter and Ugas ahead of their world title fight. Porter talked about a potential rematch against Keith Thurman as well as wanting to face Errol Spence Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. The full interview with Porter can be seen in the video at this link.
