Rex Tso To Take Time Away From Boxing, Won’t Fight In The First Half Of 2018

Super flyweight contender Rex Tso is on the verge of fighting for a world title, but has now said he's taking some time off from the ring.

Tso is still nursing a badly bruised left eye sustained in his last fight against Japanese veteran Kohei Kono, which the Hong Kong superstar won on a technical decision in the seventh round. In a recent Facebook post, Tso said he wanted to give himself a period of rest and be out of action for the first half of 2018.

In the first half of 2018, I will be in a state of rest! And most of these years, I can finally take a real break! In fact, I used to have no rest, but as long as I can do it, I will do everything I can to do it — but when the body comes up with all kinds of problems, it is more than a reminder to myself!

Whether or not Tso will follow through on his plan to rest remains to be seen. Tso is ranked on all four rankings from the governing bodies and is even ranked as high as No. 2 in the WBO rankings. With WBO champion Naoya Inoue moving up in weight to bantamweight, the WBO super flyweight title will soon be vacant and Tso could be ordered to fight for the title.

Tso, generally regarded as the best boxer in all of Hong Kong, is undefeated as a pro boxer and is the current WBO international super flyweight champion.
