Report: Regis Prograis vs. Viktor Postol To Take Place On March 9 On Showtime

Showtime’s recent Boxing Upfront gave boxing fans a number of major world title fights taking place in the first six months of 2018, but the network is not done adding world title fights.

According to promoter Lou DiBella talking to Boxingscene.com, Regis Prograis and Viktor Postol are set to meet on March 9 for the vacant interim WBC junior welterweight title. The fight is reportedly set to take place at the Deadwood Mountain Grand, a casino and resort in Deadwood, South Dakota.

The winner will then face the winner of the Amir Imam vs. Jose Ramirez fight for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title. That fight is scheduled to take place on March 17 at Madison Square Garden and will be televised on ESPN.

Postol has only fought once since losing to Terence Crawford in 2016, defeating Jamshidbek Najmiddinov by unanimous decision on September 2017. Prograis, the undefeated NABF champion at 140-pounds, has not fought since last June when he defeated Joel Diaz Jr. by TKO.

The Prograis vs. Postol fight will headline a Showtime tripleheader that night that will also have an IBF junior welterweight title eliminator between Anthony Yigit and Ivan Baranchyk. Whoever wins that fight will be the mandatory challenger to the IBF titleholder with champion Sergey Lipinets fighting Mikey Garcia on March 10 in San Antonio. As far as a third fight to round out the Showtime tripleheader, no fight has been announced yet.
