Report: Manny Pacquiao vs. Adrien Broner Does 400,000 PPV Buys
Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner‘s pay-per-view got a solid buyrate according to reports.
According to ESPN, the January 19 pay-per-view that was produced by Showtime, sold about 400,000 units. The pay-per-view had a $74.99 price tag for the HD version and at that price, the event generated approximately $30 million in domestic pay-per-view revenue. The official attendance number for the event, which took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, was 13,025.
Pacquiao, fighting in his first bout in the United States, scored a unanimous decision win over Broner to retain his WBA “Regular” welterweight title. After the fight, Pacquiao issued a challenge to Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a rematch of their 2015 fight that broke pay-per-view buyrate and revenue records.
The reported buyrate would be the most a fight featuring Pacquiao has drawn since 2016 when he defeated Timothy Bradley in their rubber match. As far as pay-per-view revenue is concerned, the estimated $30 million would be the most since that 2015 fight against Mayweather, which generated close to $400 million in revenue. This was Broner’s first fight as a pay-per-view headliner in the United States.
The fight was shown on free television in the United Kingdom on ITV. ITV acquired the rights to the fight after signing an exclusive broadcast deal with PBC. Fightful did a full recap of the fight, as well as the entire pay-per-view card, which included Marcus Browne beating Badou Jack in the co-main event. That recap can be seen at the top of the page.
