Report: Jose Benavidez Jr., Luis Collazo Agree To Terms On Summer Fight
Jose Benavidez Jr.’s first fight since losing to Terence Crawford could be against grizzled veteran and former world champion Luis Collazo.
According to Mike Coppinger, Benavidez and Collazo have agreed to terms to have a welterweight fight that will be shown on an ESPN platform. No specifics on the venue, date or placement on a card was mentioned in the report.

Benavidez, a 26-year-old fighter who was the interim WBA junior welterweight titleholder from 2014 to 2015, had his first shot at a full world title in his last fight back in October against Crawford. Benavidez was stopped by Crawford in the 12th round to retain the WBO welterweight title in the main event of an ESPN-televised card from Omaha, Nebraska.
Collazo was a candidate to face Crawford in April and at one point was considered one of the favorites to land the title fight. Crawford would end up fighting Amir Khan on pay-per-view while Collazo would end up winning a split decision against Samuel Vargas on a Top Rank card at Madison Square Garden on St. Patrick’s Day. Collazo held the WBA welterweight title from 2005 to 2006 and has won his last three fights.
