Report: Jarrett Hurd To Defend IBF Title Against Austin Trout

Jarrett Hurd’s next title defense will come in the form of former world champion Austin Trout.

Hurd is defending his IBF light middleweight title against trout. According to RingTV, Hurd vs. Trout was originally set for the July 15 PBC on FOX card, which is currently taking place in New York’s Nassau Coliseum, but fight officials are trying to find a new venue, date and television home for the title fight to take place.

Hurd is coming off a stoppage win over Tony Harrison in February where he claimed his first world title, stopping Harrison in nine rounds to win the then-vacant IBF title on the undercard of Deontay Wilder vs. Gerald Washington. The fight was scheduled to be an IBF title eliminator, but once former champion Jermall Charlo vacated the title, the fight became for the title. Hurd is 20-0 as a professional boxer.

Trout is most recently coming off a unanimous decision loss to Charlo last May and hasn’t fought since. That fight was also for the IBF light middleweight champion. Trout has fought the likes of Erislandy Lara, Canelo Alvarez and Delvin Rodriguez. Trout’s signature career win came in 2012 when he defeated Miguel Cotto to retain his WBA light middleweight title.

It is the second world title fight being made at 154 pounds in the span of a month. Golden Boy recently announced that, after weeks of negotiations, Miguel Cotto and Yoshihiro Kamegai will fight for the vacant WBO light middleweight in August.
