Report: Ivan Baranchyk vs. Anthony Yigit IBF Title Fight Set For October 27
A second World Boxing Super Series junior welterweight tournament fight is set to take place in New Orleans next month.
According to Ring TV’s Mike Coppinger, the October 27 WBSS boxing card will feature Ivan Baranchyk vs. Anthony Yigit for the vacant IBF 140-pound title.
The title is currently vacant after former champion Mikey Garcia gave up the belt after initially agreeing to keep fighting at 140 pounds. Garcia won the title with a unanimous decision victory over Sergey Lipinets and was then ordered to fight Baranchyk, the mandatory challenger to the title. The IBF then ordered Baranchyk and Yigit to fight for the title but when both agreed to fight in the WBSS, they were automatically locked in to fight each other for the vacant belt in the first round.
The other WBSS fight in New Orleans is Regis Prograis vs. Terry Flanagan for the WBC Diamond title. Prograis won the interim WBC title earlier this year and retained his title this summer on a Top Rank on ESPN card, punching his ticket to the tournament.
Baranchyk has fought once this year, stopping former title challenger Petr Petrov in the eighth round of their March fight. As for Yigit, the undefeated Swedish fighter’s last time out was last December when he scored a unanimous decision win over Joe Hughes to retain his EBU European title. Baranchyk and Yigit was supposed to fight in March, but Yigit fell ill right before their fight and so he was replaced by Petrov.
