Report: Golden Boy Promotions Sent Another Offer For Canelo Alvrez vs. Sergey Kovalev Fight
Canelo Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotions are not giving up on a potential fight against light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev.
Per a report from Chris Mannix, Golden Boy Promotions has made a second offer to Kovalev’s camp about a potential fight for September. The fight would have Alvarez go up two weight classes to challenge for Kovalev’s WBO title.
Initially, Golden Boy Promotions sent an offer that Kovalev and his promoter deemed way too low. As far as the Kovalev camp is concerned, they would be interested in joining DAZN, the streaming service Alvarez fights for, on a multi-fight deal.
Golden Boy has increased its offer to Sergey Kovalev in an effort to finalize a deal for Kovalev to defend his light heavyweight title against Canelo Alvarez in September, a source familiar with the negotiations told @SInow.

Still: The offer to Kovalev is still underwhelming to Kovalev’s team, per source. One option Kovalev’s promoter, @Main_Events would like to pursue: A multifight agreement with @DAZN_USA that guarantees Kovalev a comeback fight.

Such a fight had been on Alvarez’s mind ever since talks with Gennadiy Golovkin started to go south. Although a trilogy fight against Golovkin is still not out of the question, Alvarez is now focused on other bouts. Alvarez, who was recently promoted to WBC Franchise champion, holds the WBA and IBF middleweight titles and is still the WBA’s secondary super middleweight titleholder.
Kovalev, on the other hand, has yet to defend his WBO title once since since winning the belt a third time back in February when he defeated Eleider Alvarez. Kovalev had been previously ordered to defend his title against mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde.
