Report: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia To Take Place At AT&T Stadium In March
The IBF welterweight title fight between Errol Spence Jr. and Mikey Garcia could be coming to Jerry World.
According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, AT&T Stadium, home to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas, signed a deal to host the fight which would take place on March 16.
Although a venue seems to be secured, the actual fight has yet to be made based on the report. It was previously reported that the fight was close to being signed, but since that initial report, Garcia vacated the IBF lightweight title in anticipation for his welterweight fight. Garcia, the current WBC lightweight champion, would be coming up in weight to fight for a title in a fifth weight class. Garcia fought in Texas back in March when he defeated Sergey Lipinets to win the IBF junior welterweight title.
Spence, who has held the IBF welterweight title in 2017 and has made two successful title defense, would be returning to Texas for the second straight fight. Spence last fought at The Star, the Cowboys’ practice facility, in June when he knocked out mandatory challenger Carlos Ocampo in the first round.
AT&T Stadium is no stranger to hosting a big boxing event. Back in 2016, AT&T Stadium hosted Canelo Alvarez‘s WBO junior middleweight title win over Liam Smith and the fight drew in an impressive attendance figure of 51,420. The venue was supposed to have hosted a pay-per-view fight between Miguel Cotto and James Kirkland in February 2017, but the fight got canceled after Kirkland suffered an injury.
