Report: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia Generated At Least 360,000 PPV Buys
The first boxing pay-per-view with Fox being directly involved has reportedly sold at least 360,000 buys.
According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, 360,000 appears to be a more definitive number for the March 16 event after it was previously reported that the event was trending towards more than 350,000 buys. The report also states that the number could still rise to 380,000 buys with an outside chance of the final number being 400,000.
The main event of the card, which drew an official attendance figure of 47,525, was Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia for the IBF welterweight title in both men’s pay-per-view main event debut. The reported number would mean that all three of PBC’s pay-per-view events in the four-month span from 2018 to 2019 sold at least 300,000 units. The two previous main events were Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury last December and Manny Pacquiao vs. Adrien Broner this past January.
The pay-per-view card took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and saw Spence dominate Garcia, winning every round on all three judges’ scorecards. The fight headlined a five-fight main card broadcast that also saw former world champions Luis Nery, David Benavidez and Chris Arreola win fight their respective bouts.
Fightful lead boxing reporter Carlos Toro did a weekend recap podcast of the entire main card including the FS1 prelim card as well as the rest of that weekend’s big boxing events from around the world. The podcast can be seen in its entirety in the video below.
