Report: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia Expected To Surpass 350,000 PPV Buys

Some good news regarding the pay-per-view buyrate for Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia.

According to Mike Coppinger, the event, which was Fox’s first-ever boxing pay-per-view broadcast, is expected to pull in strong numbers. Coppinger reported that the card is expected to do more than 350,000 buys and is climbing towards 400,000 buys.

If the projections are true, it could potentially be the highest buyrate done for a U.S. boxing event headlined by two first-time pay-per-view main eventers since Sergio Martinez defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in 2012. That fight had at least 475,000 buys.

The pay-per-view card took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and saw Spence dominate Garcia, winning every round on all three judges’ scorecards. The fight headlined a five-fight main card broadcast that also saw former world champions Luis Nery, David Benavidez and Chris Arreola win fight their respective bouts.

The prelim card aired on FS1 and averaged 421,000 viewers. The lone fight on the prelim card was a heavyweight bout between Charles Martin and Gregory Corbin, with Martin getting the win by disqualification.

Fightful lead boxing reporter Carlos Toro did a weekend recap podcast of the entire card including the prelim fight as well as the rest of the weekend’s big boxing events from around the world. The video podcast can be seen in the video below.
