Report: Canelo Álvarez Finalizing Two-Fight Deal To Face Bivol, GGG In 2022
Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Álvarez is set to return in 2022 in a big way.
ESPN’s Mike Coppinger reported that the Mexican boxing superstar is close to finalizing a two-fight deal with Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn worth around $85 million that will see him face undefeated WBA light heavyweight champion, Dmirty Bivol, in the first matchup on May 7 for his 175-pound title.
If he were to defeat Bivol, Álvarez would then return to 168-pounds to defend his titles in a trilogy bout with his longtime rival IBF and IBO middleweight champ, Gennady Golovkin, on September 17. GGG also has to first defeat WBA middleweight champion, Ryoto Murata, in a 160-pound title unification bout that is expected to happen sometime this spring in Tokyo, Japan, before the third meeting with Álvarez could become official.

Coppinger’s report also added that Álvarez has yet to officially sign any deal yet and is also mulling a $45 million, one-fight offer with the PBC and promoter Al Haymon to face undefeated WBC middleweight champion, Jermall Charlo, also on May 7.
