Report: Avery Sparrow Arrested, Fight Against Ryan Garcia Canceled

Although Golden Boy Promotions is moving forward with its Mexican Independence Day weekend show in Carson, California, there will be plenty of changes on the card.

The biggest change of the card is the cancelation of the co-main event, a lightweight bout between unbeaten prospect Ryan Garcia and Avery Sparrow. The fight was called off after Sparrow was reportedly arrested by U.S. Marshalls the day of weigh-ins.

First reported by Mike Coppinger, U.S. Marshalls were searching the Los Angeles area throughout the week for Sparrow. The fight was going to be the co-main event of a DAZN card from the Dignity Health Sports Park.

The other notable change on the final card is for the WBC Female super middleweight title. Originally, titleholder Franchon Crews-Dezurn was going to fight former heavyweight champion Alejandra Jimenez, but visa issues prevented Jimenez from fighting.

Now, Crews-Dezurn will fight Maricela Cornejo in a title rematch from September 2018 which saw Crews-Dezurn capture the title by majority decision. Crews-Dezurn weighed in at 167.6 pounds while Cornejo came in at 166.8 pounds.

The card will be headlined by WBO junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia defending his title against Patrick Allotey. It will be Munguia’s fifth title defense since winning the title back in May 2018 with a stoppage win over Sadam Ali.
