Ray Robinson: I Deserve A Shot At Terence Crawford

One of the more surprising results of this past weekend saw Ray Robinson fight top-ranked welterweight contender Egidijus Kavaliauskas to a draw and now Robinson believes he’s the one that should get a title shot next.

Kavaliauskas was primed for a potential opportunity to fight for Terence Crawford’s WBO welterweight title as he is the No. 1 fighter in the WBO rankings, but his draw against Robinson on March 30 may set him back. The fight ended with two of the three scorecards ruling the 10-round bout a draw with the third scorecard having Robinson ahead.

With that in mind, Robinson believes he deserves a shot at Crawford’s title next. Not only does the latest fight prove, in his eyes, that he’s earned a world title fight, but Robinson’s past experience with fighting Crawford in the amateurs helps his case as well.

“I think now I deserve that shot. I am the last person to defeat Terence Crawford in the amateurs. The fans would want to see it, and I am sure he would want it. If it was me, I would want to fight the last person who beat me. If not Crawford, I feel that I deserve to compete with the top welterweights out there. Guys like Thurman, Porter, Spence, Sadam Ali, Kell Brook, Adrien Broner. Any of them. I am a promotional free agent, so it won’t be difficult to make a deal with any of them,” Crawford said.

In the meantime, Crawford is currently getting ready to defend his WBO title against Amir Khan on April 20 in the main event of an ESPN pay-per-view from Madison Square Garden.
