Rau’Shee Warren To Return To Action On Broner vs. Vargas Undercard

Former bantamweight world champion Rau’Shee Warren is looking to get back into the world title picture.

Warren had been linked to fighting on the untelevised undercard for the April 21 Barclays Center boxing card, but a press release not only officially confirmed his fight but also his opponent. Warren will face Dominican bantamweight Juan Gabriel Medina in an eight-round bantamweight bout.

The former WBA bantamweight champion has not fought since last July when he also fought at the Barclays Center. Warren emerged victorious on that fight against former IBF super flyweight champion McJoe Arroyo, winning the fight by unanimous decision. Warren is currently ranked in the top seven of the official WBA, WBC and IBF bantamweight rankings, holding a place as high as the No. 2 spot in the IBF rankings.

Medina, a pro boxer since 2013, started his career winning his first 10 fights before losing his last two bouts, which were his first boxing matches in the United States.

Also announced for the April 21 undercard is Fabian Maidana facing off against Hevinson Herrera in a 10-round super lightweight bout. Maidana, the younger brother of former world champion Marcos Maidana, is 14-0 as a pro boxer and is a former WBA Fedebol super welterweight titleholder.

Fightful will have complete coverage of the April 21 boxing card at the Barclays Center, scheduled to be headlined by Adrien Broner vs. Jessie Vargas. Showtime plans to televise the main event as well as Jermall Charlo vs. Hugo Centeno Jr. for the vacant interim WBC middleweight title and Gervonta Davis vs. Jesus Cuellar for the WBA “super” super featherweight world title.
