Promoter: Rob Brant Could Face Jeff Horn After Beating Ryota Murata
If Rob Brant is able to get past Ryota Murata once more, then a fight against former welterweight champion Jeff Horn could be next.
Greg Cohen, who is Brant’s co-promoter, spoke to ESPN about the possibility of a Brant-Horn fight down the road should both men emerge victorious in their respective next fights. While Cohen did not outright confirm such a fight would happen next, he did say that was one possibility and that Brant is interested in making that fight possible.
“If the economics are right it’s definitely a fight that could happen and fight we’re all interested in,” Cohen said. “There’s nothing definite but it’s a very good possibility.”
Brant is currently preparing to defend his WBA “Regular” middleweight title against Murata on July 12 in Osaka, Japan. That fight will headline an ESPN+ card from the EDION Arena. Both men previously fought each other back in October 2018, when Brant dominated Murata en route to a wide decision win in Las Vegas. Since then, Brant had gone on to defend his secondary title once, an 11th round TKO win over Khasan Baysangurov back in February.
As for Horn, he’ll be preparing to fight Michael Zerafa on August 31 in Australia. Since losing his WBO welterweight title to Terence Crawford in the summer of 2018, Horn has only fought once, which was a first-round win over Anthony Mundine in Australia. Horn, who had also expressed interest in fighting the Brant-Murata 2 winner, is currently ranked No. 3 by the WBA at 160 pounds.
