Pair Of Argentinian Boxers Win World Title Fights
Before 2018 comes to a close, a pair of sisters walk out of their final boxing fights of the year as world champions.
In Santa Fe, Argentina, Evelyn Nazarena Bermudez and Daniela Romina Bermudez win their respective world title bouts on a card featuring a quartet of fights at Club Atlético Talleres on December 29.
Evelyn battled Guadalupe Bautista to a split decision (96-94, 94-96, 96-94) to win the IBF Female light flyweight title while Daniela’s title fight was much more decisive. Daniela scored a total of four knockdowns to stop Yolis Marrugo Franco in the fourth round to retain the WBO Female bantamweight title. The two sisters become the latest pair of siblings to each hold a pro boxing world title, joining Amanda and Cindy Serrano, Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, Koko, Daiki and Tomoki Kameda, Jermall and Jermell Charlo and many more.
Daniela ends another successful year for her, having won the IBF Female super bantamweight title when she scored a unanimous decision win over Marcela Eliana Acuna back in April.
Evelyn, the younger sister, continues her unbeaten start as a pro, improving her record to 11-0. Evelyn was very busy throughout the year, winning all six of her fights, including the South American super flyweight title and now her first world title. Evelyn is now the third woman to have held the IBF title at 108 pounds since March 2017 with no successful title defenses being made after Naoko Shibata defended her title five times from 2014 to 2016.
