Oscar De La Hoya Said His Camp Will Not Chase GGG For Canelo Fight

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is tired of Gennady Golovkin and being in a constant struggle of trying to successfully negotiate a fight between Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez.

De La Hoya recently appeared on the ESPN Deportes program, Nacion ESPN, and called out Golovkin saying that money is not playing a factor during the failed negotiations at making a fight happen earlier this year.

“Golovkin says that he’s not about the money,” De La Hoya said. “Then let’s make the fight already for the people, for the public. The arrangements can be made, there is no problem with that, but we have to make the fight already. The one who is running is Golovkin. He might not even know what he was offered. The money is and so we have to make the fight.”

The former world champion then said that he and Canelo’s camp are not trying to pursue Golovkin any further now, but mentioned that the potential fight could still happen in September 2017.

“We are no longer chasing Golovkin and his team,” De La Hoya said. “They’re playing games, that’s all. Canelo will continue his career, he will fight in January or February, depending on the hand. He will then go on and fight in May and September, and hopefully September will be the the date we have the fight with Golovkin.”

Canelo is currently injured and does not have a fight set for his return. He is already ruled out of action for the remainder of 2016.
