Most Unfortunate Video Games of All Times

In most cases, playing games is usually a pleasant experience that makes gamers super happy. Whether you are playing top-rated casino titles on Spin City or you are engaging with fantastic video games. There are times, however, when you will pick a title and end up regretting it. These games present atrocious storylines, bad graphics, and dreary gameplay. It is one of the reasons you need to be careful when choosing a game to play. Below, you will discover a list of some of the most unfortunate video games of all time — titles that are not worth your time or resources.

Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing

If there was an award for the worst video game, it would definitely go to Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. It is one of the titles that has unanimously received negative reviews from the masses. Some of the reasons gamers hated it include:

  • Frequent Glitches;
  • Lack of Collision Detection;
  • Pathetic Visuals;
  • Lack of a General Storyline;
  • Severe Lack of Functionality.

The title was presented as a third-person racing video game developed by Stellar Stone. Activision Value was responsible for publishing it for Microsoft Windows PC Systems. In 2004, it was decided that GameMill Entertainment would be responsible for distributing copies of the title. The packaging for Big Rigs states that its primary objective is to race the Big Rig safely as it delivers illegal cargo on a vessel while avoiding the local police. In reality, there are no police, and the game’s objectives appear far-fetched. As bad as Big Rigs sounds, it has sold almost 20,000 copies, which begs the question, “Do some gamers love terrible games?”

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

No list of unfortunate video games of all time would be complete without E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial title. Released in 1982, it’s hard to imagine its fate because, during its production, it has everything going for it, including:

  • A Large Budget;
  • Massively Popular Film Tie-In;
  • High Expectations.

It was, therefore, sad to see the result was a frustrating and confusing title that made it almost unplayable. Many players were left scratching their heads as they tried to navigate nonsensical objectives and endless pits. Perhaps one of the reasons for this was that its development was rushed, taking only 5 weeks. E.T. was so poorly received that developers blamed the video game industry crash that occurred in 1983. Tons of unsold cartridges were buried in a landfill in New Mexico sealing its fate as one of the worst titles ever.

Family Party: 30 Great Games Obstacle Arcade

Family games are supposed to be fun, engaging, and exciting. It appears that Family Party did not get the memo. Instead of coming up with a title that people love, they delivered one that only elicited anger and confusion. For most people who tried it, frustration began a few moments after booting Family Party. For some, obstacles are not within the games but the exhausting menu already! Other areas gamers found sickening include:

  • Incredibly Poor Design;
  • All 30 Sections Are Awful;
  • Sections Have Poor Implementation of Motion Controls;
  • Choosing a Character Is a Whole New Problem;
  • Voice Acting Is Annoyingly Repetitive;
  • Horrendous Gameplay;
  • Tedious Load Times.

It goes on the record for being one of the worst gamers released for the Wii U and published by D3 Publisher.

Cyberpunk 2077

Many video game enthusiasts highly anticipated the release of Cyberpunk 2077. Developed by CD Projekt Red, it saw the light of day in 2020. Set in a dystopian future, the title promised an immersive and rich world filled with endless possibilities and complex characters. When it finally launched, and people excitedly ran to try it out, they were only met with too many disappointments. In addition to the fact that there were multiple delays before launching, livid gamers also experienced the following:

  • A Game Riddled With Glitches and Bugs Making It Unplayable;
  • Frequent Performance Issues;
  • Characters Running on Barely Functional Artificial Intelligence;
  • Incompatibility With Older Gaming Consoles That Were Meant to Support It.

The situation was so bad that many players were demanding refunds, and Sony ended up pulling the title from its digital store which was a drastic and rare measure. There was some good news: it became a solid game after many patches, but its disastrous launch definitely left a bad taste in many gamer’s tongues.

When Good Video Ideas Become Bad

In the ever-evolving world of video games, it’s sad that not every title ends up being a blockbuster hit. Despite high expectations, beloved franchises, and big budgets, some titles are remembered for all the wrong reasons. Some factors that generally contribute to these are poor design choices, technical failures, or, in some cases, simply bad luck. The bad games usually end up on the list of the most unfortunate. With such negative reviews, it warns other gaming lovers that the titles are not worth picking a controller for.
