Mikey Garcia vs. Adrien Broner Gets Venue, Jermall Charlo vs. Jorge Sebastian Heiland As Co-Feature

Mikey Garcia vs. Adrien Broner not only has a venue but a hell of a co-feature as well.

Just days after Jermall Charlo and Jorge Sebastian Heiland were ordered by the WBC to engage in a middleweight title eliminator, the two sides were able to agree to fight on the undercard of Garcia vs. Broner on July 29.

The second recent announcement regarding the card made is the location of the venue. After a couple of weeks of speculation, it has been confirmed that the card will take place in Brooklyn, New York’s Barclays Center. The fight would make this the fourth time Showtime/CBS would broadcast a boxing card from the Barclays Center in 2017. There were some last-minute challenges from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to host the fight, but the Barclays Center had always remained the favorite to host the fight from the beginning.

The winner of the Charlo vs. Heiland fight would be the WBC’s mandatory challenger to Gennady Golovkin‘s WBC title, which is on the line when Golovkin faces off against Canelo Alvarez on September 16.

Heiland has won his last eight fights since a majority decision loss to Mateo Damian Veron that he avenged two months ago. Charlo is a former light middleweight world champion and is undefeated in his pro career. The fight against Heiland will mark Charlo’s middleweight debut.

Garcia, the WBC lightweight champion, is moving up in weight to light welterweight to fight Broner, who is a former world champion in four different weight classes
