Miguel Berchelt vs. Miguel Roman For WBC Super Featherweight Title Set For November
Miguel Roman’s long-awaited shot at Miguel Berchelt’s WBC super featherweight title will come in November.
Both Berchelt and Roman have agreed to a fight on November 3 and will headline an ESPN+ card, although the location of the fight has not been decided. According to an ESPN report, Los Angeles and Texas are two places being considered for the title fight.
Roman will be fighting for a world title for the third time in his career, but has yet to win a title. In Roman’s first attempt, he lost a decision to Jonathan Victor Barros for the WBA featherweight title in 2011 and in 2012, got knocked out by Antonio DeMarco in a fight for DeMarco’s WBC lightweight title.
The 32-year-old Roman was named the mandatory challenger by the WBC earlier this year after winning a fight against Orlando Salido last December. While waiting to get his shot at the WBC title, Roman stayed busy in 2018, scoring knockout wins over Aristides Perez and Michel Marcano, extending his win streak to four fights and improving his record to 60-12 with 47 KO.
Berchelt won the title back in January 2017 when he got a knockout win over then-champion Francisco Vargas. Before that fight, Berchelt spent the majority of 2016 as the WBO’s interim champion. As the full champion, the 26-year-old Berchelt has successfully defended the title three times, with his last two fights being voluntary defenses taking place in Mexico. Berchelt is coming off a third-round stoppage win over Barros back in June.
