Michael Conlan To Headline Boxing Card In Northern Ireland
Rising Irish boxing star Michael Conlan has fought in the Olympics as an amateur and at Madison Square Garden multiple times as a professional boxer, but now he will go back home and headline his first pro boxing show.
Conlan will fight former world title challenger Adeilson Dos Santos on June 30 in the main event of a BT Sport boxing card at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. This would be the first time Conlan not only fights as the headliner as a pro but also fight in front of his home country fans as a fighter in the pro ranks.
“I can’t remember the last time I boxed in Belfast, even as an amateur. It was very rare towards the end of my career, so for me to come home and step out into the Odyssey Arena as the main event is something special,” Conlan said in an article in the Irish News.
Although Conlan has his June 30 fight scheduled and set, he still has a fight at Madison Square Garden before that. Conlan will fight Ibon Larrinaga in an eight-round fight on May 12 on the undercard of Jorge Linares vs. Vasyl Lomachenko that will be televised on ESPN. Since signing with Top Rank and turning pro, Conlan has a 6-0 record with five knockouts. Conlan won a bronze medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics but did not medal in the 2016 Olympics.
Dos Santos’ last time out in the ring saw him lose to Evgeny Smirnov by unanimous decision in April. The 26-year-old Dos Santos has won numerous regional super bantamweight titles, but in his lone world title fight, he was knocked out by former WBO champion Jessie Magdaleno in 2017.
