Maxim Dadashev Dies From Injuries Suffered In July 19 Fight

Junior welterweight contender Maxim Dadashev has died from injuries suffered in a fight in Maryland on July 19. He was 28 years old.

Dadashev’s passing was confirmed by his trainer Buddy McGirt as well as strength and conditioning coach Donatas Janusevicius. Dadashev had been at the University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center after the fight at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill.

The 28-year-old fought Subriel Matias in a title eliminator for the IBF junior welterweight title eliminator as part of a Top Rank on ESPN+ broadcast. McGirt stopped the fight after the 11th round to protect Dadashev, but Dadashev was slow to get up and later taken out on a stretcher to the hospital.

Dadashev was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma, or bleeding in the brain, and underwent a two-hour surgery as well as having his scalp opened up. Since then, Dadashev had been in a medically induced coma.

Since making his pro debut in 2016, Dadashev has won 13 of his 14 fights, capturing the NABF junior welterweight title in 2018. Dadashev entered the fight ranked in the top three by the IBF and owns wins against the likes of Antonio DeMarco and Darleys Perez.
