Mauricio Sulaiman: Srisaket Sor Rungvisai Wants A Rematch Against Juan Francisco Estrada
After a Fight of the Year contender against Juan Francisco Estrada, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai said he's ready to do it all over again, according to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman.
Sulaiman spoke with ESPN Deportes and revealed Sor Rungvisai’s wish to defend his WBC super flyweight title once more against Estrada and that the camps for both fighters are thinking about having a fight sometime between September and November.
"I had the opportunity to talk with Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, where we awarded with a recognition for his work in 2017 and over there, he told us the fight he wants is a rematch against Estrada. He has the possibility of making a voluntary defense against whomever, but has extended his wish to face off against Estrada again. In fact, he even got in contact with promoter Tom Loeffler to see how possible it is and we got told between September and November it could happen," Sulaiman said.
Sor Rungvisai and Estrada headlined HBO’s second “Superfly” boxing event last February with Sor Rungvisai retaining his world title with a majority decision win. Estrada was Sor Rungvisai’s mandatory challenger for the February bout and with Sor Rungvisai picking up the win, he is free to make a voluntary defense against any boxer ranked in the top 15 of the WBC’s official rankings. Estrada is still ranked No. 1 despite losing to Sor Rungvisai.
Sor Rungvisai won the WBC title back in March 2017 when he defeated Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez and then retained the title in a rematch against Gonzalez last September.
