Matchroom Boxing Postpones July 6 Show, Lawrence Okolie Added To Whyte vs. Rivas Undercard
An injury to Jack Massey not only put the main event of an upcoming Matchroom Boxing show into disarray, but it postponed the entire event.
Matchroom Boxing announced that Massey, who was supposed to face Lawrence Okolie in the main event of the July 6 event at the Manchester Arena, suffered an arm injury and the whole show has been scrapped. The company announced that anybody who bought tickets for the show can get a refund from the original point of purchase.
With the announcement, several fighters scheduled for the card will now fight in future events. As for Okolie, the current British and Commonwealth cruiserweight champion will now compete on the undercard of the July 20 show at The O2 in London. That card, to be streamed on DAZN in the United States, will be headlined by a heavyweight clash between contenders Dillian Whyte and Oscar Rivas.
Okolie would have been making the second defense of both belts that he won in separate bouts last year, but there are no further details on his fight except that it will be a title defense against an opponent to be named at a later date.
Anthony Fowler and former world title challenger Brian Rose, who were supposed to fight on the undercard of the July 6 show, will now face each other on a future Matchroom Boxing card later this summer. This will be Fowler’s first fight since suffering his first pro loss to Scott Fitzgerald back in March while Rose is attempting to extend his current win streak to three fights.
