Manny Pacquiao: You Can’t Avoid People Who Will Ask For Floyd Mayweather Rematch

Even years after Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fought in the most commercially successful pay-per-view fight in boxing history, questions about a rematch are still being asked on a regular basis.

Pacquiao, who lost that fight against Mayweather in 2015, had always wanted a rematch, but the unbeaten Mayweather’s desire for a rematch has always been inconsistent. Mayweather claims he is currently retired after his boxing match against Conor McGregor, but after he and Pacquiao met in Tokyo this past September, the idea of another fight between two seemed stronger than at any other point in the last two years.

But before Pacquiao can even think about fighting Mayweather once more, he first must successfully defend his WBA “Regular” welterweight title against Adrien Broner on January 19. Pacquiao recently participated in a conference call and was asked by Fightful whether or not the constant chatter of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 has affected him as he prepares for Broner.

“You cannot avoid the people that will ask if there’s a rematch with Floyd Mayweather because I think they have a big question mark in their mind and also in their heart about that what happened in that fight. I’m just answering them that I don’t have a plan yet. I’m very focused on this fight January 19 against Adrien Broner because Broner is a former champion and he’s the kind of fighter that you cannot underestimate or take him lightly,” Pacquiao said.

Although Pacquiao may be up for a rematch, Mayweather’s thoughts are a little unclear. After the meeting in Tokyo, Mayweather fought an exhibition bout against Japanese kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa at the Rizin 14 show. After the exhibition, however, Mayweather insisted that he is still retired.

Fightful will have a live results page for the fight between Pacquiao and Broner, which will headline a pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena. You can listen to Pacquiao talking to Fightful in the video at the top of the page.
