Krzysztof Glowacki Overpowers Maksim Vlasov To Reach World Boxing Super Series Semifinals

Krzysztof Glowacki is heading to the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight semifinals as a champion.

In the final World Boxing Super Series quarterfinal fight card of 2018, Glowacki got a unanimous decision win over Maksim Vlasov (115-112, 117-110, 118-110). Not only is Glowacki in the tournament semifinals, but also won the interim WBO cruiserweight title, which was recently created for this fight.

It took Glowacki no time to assert himself as the dominant boxer when he hurt Vlasov with a right hook to the chin in the first round, but Vlasov managed to avoid getting knocked down. Glowacki would keep landing the left hand throughout the fight, which rocked Vlasov on a number of occasions.

Vlasov was able to keep up with Glowacki at times, but unable to win enough rounds late in the fight to make the fight a close one. The loss snapped Vlasov’s 12-fight win streak that started after a loss to eventual WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto Ramirez back in 2015.

The fight was originally just supposed to be a WBSS quarterfinal fight, but then the WBO created the interim title at its recent convention and designated this fight to be for the title. With undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk potentially moving up in weight and vacating his titles, this could leave the possibility for Glowacki to be elevated to full champion by the time he steps into the ring next.

Glowacki, ranked in the top 10 of Fightful’s boxing rankings at cruiserweight, is now set to face off against former world champion Mairis Briedis in the semifinals which will start in 2019. Briedis also fought on that same card Glowacki competed in, scoring a unanimous decision victory over Noel Mikaelian.
