Kid Galahad To Ask IBF For Immediate Rematch Against Josh Warrington
Kid Galahad will not take his loss to IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington quietly.
Back on June 15, Galahad lost his first world title fight against Warrington in Leeds at a boxing card that was streamed on ESPN+ in the United States. Galahad lost the fight by split decision with two judges scoring the fight 116-113 and 116-112 in favor of Warrington with the third judge scoring the bout 115-113 in favor of Galahad.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Galahad spoke about the moment it was announced that he lost the fight on the scorecards and what his immediate reaction was at the moment.
“When I saw the scorecards of the referee, and I just saw ‘Josh’… I just thought, ‘How has this happened?’ I thought I won at least eight rounds, eight or nine rounds. I landed more shots than Josh and I landed the cleaner shots, and that’s the name of the game – to hit and not get hit. I controlled the pace, I made him fight my fight. I didn’t fight his fight, I made him fight my fight,” Galahad said.
As for what is next for Galahad, he did say he would try and go to the IBF and request an immediate rematch. Governing bodies can issue an immediate rematch for a world title but it is no guarantee that such a thing will be applied here.
“We’re going try and push for a rematch with the IBF. If not, we’ll try to get another mandatory spot. We’ll see, we’ll see what the IBF say. I think they’ll probably push for a rematch,” Galahad said.
Warrington has held the IBF title since May 2018 with a split decision win over Lee Selby. Warrington would go on to defend his title against Carl Frampton in Manchester late last year.
