Kell Brook Injured, Brandon Cook To Get Replacement For July 28 Fight

Kell Brook’s upcoming fight against Brandon Cook is no more after the former welterweight world champion suffered an ankle injury.

Brook was originally supposed to face Cook in a 154-pound title eliminator on the UK pay-per-view portion of the July 28 boxing card at the O2 Arena in London. The injury will keep him from competing and defending his WBC Silver junior middleweight title. The fight was going to be Brook’s first Silver title defense and second overall fight at junior middleweight.

Even though Brook is out of the card, Cook will remain on the card with a different opponent. Cook will now face former European welterweight champion Sam Eggington on the card. Eggington will be fighting for the third time this year after scoring early stoppage wins in April and in June.

Cook is on a two-fight win streak since getting stopped by Kanat Islam last September. Cook previously held the IBF North American and WBA-NABA junior middleweight champion and is ranked in the top 15 in the WBA, WBO and IBF rankings at junior middleweight.

The card will be headlined by Dillian Whyte vs. Joseph Parker for the WBC Silver and WBO International heavyweight titles. Unified IBF/WBA women’s lightweight Katie Taylor defends her titles against Kimberly Connor in the co-main event and other notable names such as Carlos Takam, Joshua Buatsi and Dereck Chisora are also scheduled to fight on the card.
